Powderhorn in Pictures

Powderhorn was as fun an event as always today. Not quite as cold as it was last year, but it definitely started to chill during the A race. The course got changed this year, and a killer run-up was added (see below). To all who endured today's races: Way to go! You're much braver than I will ever be.

I hung out with Hotpinkevil! during the C Race and cheered on the crazies:

Barb and K-Wood showin the barrier who's boss.

Ray doing things his way

Killer run-up:

K-Wood kicking ass and taking names!

On his way to give the Mrs. a smooch. How sweet is that?!

I bet I could have helped to motivate Jim R. more so if I would have told him I was going to drink his beer. Hmm...must remember for next time.

I'm sorry to say that I do not have any pictures of the B Race, because I, myself, was drinking beer with K-Wood and friends. Thanks Hollywood for sharing the jug :) Homme even showed up when he said he wasn't going to (I think he's addicted to doing Bikethrow.com interviews)!

After a little beer and Pizza Luce, I went over to the feed zone to give hand-ups to Ed Alpasa, so there are few pictures of the A race. I was told by my sources that there were no butt cracks shown this year, and that the dollar bills were taped to the railing on the run-up.

Hollywood kicking ass and taking names just like his lovely lady.

The lead group consisted of Bjorn, Bergman, and Hareland. Bjorn went on to create a nice gap for himself and won with Bergman behind and then Aric.

Little Guy's Before & After shots (also in After pic is The Super-Rookie). I don't think he had any chain trouble today...Yay!

There ya have it. Powderhorn in pics.

Dreams do come true.

Does anyone out there want to pimp out their cross bike for nationals, size 58 or 60?

I'll be racing Sunday in the Collegiate division.

I need more gears to make up for my weak legs. I have a bike but its my commuter SS.

Hostile Wedding Fair. Drunk Boom.

Now that Lalla's in Texas, all that's on here are pictures of pizza, power lines, and guys in spandex. It's about time for a little news from up north...

Yesterday, I went to the Wedding Fair with Hotpinkevil! in order to get ideas for the greatest day of Super-Rookie's life. I've never been to one of these before because well, I've never needed to. I wasn't quite sure what I should be expecting, but it was much more intense than I had thought! Those vendors can be relentless! At one point I think someone grabbed my shoulder/arm, and a videographer was quite hostileto HPE. We were ready to leave after 3 hours of wedding bliss...

We had been disappointed to learn months ago that the Wedding Fair was the same day as the Boom Island CX. It's a race that we both highly enjoy, but girls' gotta have priorities! Low and behold we got out in time to catch the A race and S-R was even racing, because he has crashed in the B race. We ended up getting there just as the boys were getting going. I spent a lovely afternoon hanging out with Homme, Smithers, Jim R, Dan Cleary, Ray, and Toddler Smithers (boy needs some pictures Smithers - I couldn't find a good one of him to link). I drank Jim R's beer, DC refilled me, Homme did Bikethrow.com interviews, Smithers heckled the riders, Ray told stories about powdered donut hand-ups, and Toddler Smithers cut off all the blood flow in Homme's fingers while we all yelled at Tuffy to give S-R a bottle. Can't beat that :) I then proceeded to home and passed out on the couch. I think I'm getting old...

Evidence of the day:

Shamelessly stolen from Smithers.

History.

Looks like Mike got an "A" on his test. Maybe I should become a history teacher, seems like all the cool kids are doing it.

Yo.

This is a photo from the last race of the season. Aren't those kits cool? Gold baby gold! They glitter a little in the sun. That's Collin in the front row. I'm still looking for a white helmet... No luck.

I think we are going to go and climb Mt. Scott this weekend, should be fun.

Mercy Cyling Weekend.

I ended the weekend with a 2nd Saturday. While being pist off a little for Saturdays lost I went into Sundays race with an angry furry and ended up 5th...

We were single file.
Some dude: "Don't cut me off"
Me: "Don't f'in be there."
Some dude: "We'll see when we go into the next corner"

Dude then tried to push me over onto the curb, after 100 yards he attacked. Then I attack a lot harder...

Some dude: Then was yelling at me and then chased me down...

Had a friend with me when I picked up my prize money (A habit from playing hockey, never walk to the parking lot alone.)

I think the dude may have won. They had 8 dudes so I don't know for sure...

I need a new bike, mine now has a broken fork and dented frame from our trip home... Time for a few weeks off anyway.

Here's some photos

Who is MN state chump again? I can pick out Texas's and Arkansas's...

Go Todd'er Go, he got 4th in the 1,2s and took home more cash then I.

How many World Champions do you see in this photo?

$1.59

"Don't race to hard!" The nice bum told me.

But I have two more races this weekend dude.

What's a $1.59 you ask?

Here's a hint. The nice bum had one and I usually have a (edit couple) *few* a week.

Politics

In my government class this morning the teacher asked, who was a Democrat? No one raised there hand. Who was a conservative? Almost everyone did. I though colleges were suppose to be a breading ground for tree hugging Democrats?

On the same subject, I consider myself fiscally conservative and socially liberal. More like a progressive Republican (I know its weird...I like my money, dislike expanding government but would love to see a little T&A on prime time TV.)

Up in Minnesota I'm conservative compared to the Joneses. Down here I'm a Liberal Yank.

Go figure.

Maybe I'm just confused.

...Looks like I have to do it again.

Good job Brady Larson on finishing 3rd overall in the MNSCS Comp Class last weekend in St. Cloud.

Temp Agency...

I was going to post a long rant about my experience at the one close by, but hell I need a job. No one wants to hire a Bio-Med part time. I have one place in mind and the dude already has 16 techs, He did say that his number of employees fluctuates daily though.

Anyone have experience with a temp agency?

OTC Race Report.

The ride plus Tyler.

The million dollar "Top Rock."

Some metal.

TT - Simple flat out and back 8 miles. I was past by my minute man so I did ok with 13th...
Crit - 5th in the sprint.
RR - Off the front "Da Bomb" style 18 miles in and found a couple more crazies for a break away that lasted about 60 miles. We dropped one guy with about 1k to go and I lost it a fun two man sprint.

I ended up 5th overall; I have to work on my darn TT skillz.

1. Gets me a degree.
2. Ride lots.
3. Learn about being a DS.
4. Earn a one year pro contract when I graduate. I'll be like 31 or so...
5. Never "grow up."

Living the dream.

Square Lake RR.

Eric Carter got 2nd.

With the day being as hot as it we were going to let the hill decide the out come. But not to let mother nature have her way with us "Da Bomb" rolled away at 1k, with him off the front doing what he does he pick up a 2-3 minute gap. When they caught him it was Erics time to go. With a nice tempo up the climb Eric pull a loonie up with him. At some point in there ride they decided to "give up" until Matt came by and gave them a split of like 4 minutes... Well that got them going again. Yorgos rode away on the back stretch with 3 to go with a B-Wood rider. So now we had a little more help riding "defensively."

With two to go I had enough, with both my legs not wanting to go any more I bagged it at the finish Line. "Da Bomb" bag it a lap sooner. We were both at the finish line to see the final.

With Eric being "out there" with his "buddy" for about 50 miles or so he wasn't able to follow Yorgos who "rode away" on the final hill. Good job guys.

Little things from the race.
Tuffy: Does he even know how to race? (After I talked to "Da Bomb" for ridding ahh strangely.)
Super: Yo James you think next year you could serve us COLD WATER in the neteral feed. ((Isn't that why you have teammates?) Thanks a bunch "Dad" Rick Carter for the ICE COLD BOTTLES, you are our best sponsor.)
James: What are you doing? Pull though, think about it. My team is killing it. (after I wasn't pulling through in a break up to "Da Bomb." Two teammates with B-Wood killing it would be nice. So I started to pull through... But we never caught him. I'm still learning.)
Thanks for the beer at the finish Jim R!

Thanks Skinnyski.com

I think Mike is going to buy one of those.

Racing is hard.

You gots your Sandbaggers, winners. Nice guys, losers. Crashers, Smashers, Can't hold a line no good for nothing punks, Smack talkers, just plain talkers, Smelly guys, Axe wearing pretty boys (I'm too sexy for this kit, too sexy for this kit too sexy it hurts.) Winers, complainers, top teners, DFL'ers, The quitters, beer drinkers, Lovers, "on your insiders", "hold your line'ers" Last but not least, your self. Who doesn't fit in any category above (Because your "better" then all of them.)Right?

Yeah, we all have one thing in common. We have to put up with each other weekend and week out. So yous best be getting over it. Because next weekend you'll have to deal with us all over again. So don't wast time and energy on one blog post, we have a long season of "teaching" ahead of us, or is it complaining... What ever.

I love family.

Even you Rich.

Racing is hard.

65 miles.

In the rain with Eric and "Da Bomb."

It's what you have to do.

Thanks City Pages, for the extra warmth.

Saw just two cyclist out there. Not to mention all the Freds at "Race Da Tonka."

Is Skibby going soft?

I thought you were hard core Skibby? You only signed up for 3 races this weekend not the available 4... 1/2/3?

All respect went down the toilet.

Do you think you'll be able to do well in CX this year with this show of softness?

Track Night

It was a beautiful night to go watch racing at the track which is exactly what Sarah and I did. The next time you'll be able to see our shining faces (see above) is at the Campus Crit this Sunday down at the U of M East Bank.

The Dubay brothers even came up to the bleachers to hangout with us for awhile.

However, it doesn't seem everyone was enjoying the social banter as much as we were...

This Saturday night.

I'll be playing hockey with Shame at Victory Memorial then heading over to Tony J's for Greenies and maybe Grumpy's later, if the right people persuade me...

This is a little going away party, all are welcome.

Giggidy Giggidy

I woke up this morning and left my place to go join my friends, Adam and Tracy Emanoff, at the Muddy River Rock-n-Roll mtb race in Red Wing. As I drove out of the garage at my apartment complex, I see this:

Yup, someone in my apartment complex is having a sleepover with a Kelly Benefit team member or whomever gets to take the team car home. I wonder who it is...

Saturday, July 28, 2007

Omaha, Sorry Super... I feel like an a$$

Didn't know we were going till Thursday night.

Long drive

I've took a lot of pictures.

Eric was off the front by himself in the road race for 70km but was brought back. :(
I had to ride hard with a couple teams because an all9yards guy was off the front.
Mike got 3rd in the field sprint 4th overall. Da Bomb rode well

Mike's TT "I don't now how I did, I don't know the time because we left to early... Good... Good, 27 avg. it was ok."

This race is sweet so far. But no ones here. Why?

---

*Update*

Mike got 2nd in the TT missing first by 1 second; Should have use those aero booties.
He's 3rd in the GC being only 9 second out from first and 1 second from 2nd. Tomorrow is the crit 1st is 15 second bonus. With time primes throwing in there. We're going for the win

Think we won't?

Free Blaine Day.

Is tommorow. Here is why as told by Mucker.

---

I remember it like yesterday. A summer Shame hockey game, down 6-2. Some punk tries to get a breakaway in the closing 12 seconds. Blaine 'Barbarian' Bargfrede catches #12 Hawley with ease and poke checks the puck into the corner. As they both approach the boards, Hawley puts his arm around Barbarian's neck and attempts to bulldog him head first into the boards. It looked wicked from the bench. Barbarian hits the brakes and Hawley crashes face first into the boards himself. Aggitated, embarassed and Shamed, Hawley pushes Blaine. Blaine returns with a shove. Then Hawley looses his mind and attempts to throw a series of overhand bombs at our Barbarbian. Blaine grabs the punks jersey and tosses this rag doll to the ice. 'Blue', our 62 year old enforcer, jumps in and the altercation ended.

So it was.

A year later, I now prepare for Free Blaine Day. My black jeans, black shirt with 'Free Blaine' armband ducktaped to its back await.

Tomorrow, I will take a few minutes around 8:17pm, step outside and pour some of my Mickey's Big Mouth Ice onto my lawn.

Say a few words about our banished brother and walk back inside.

"Free Blaine"

Ruling Needed

So, yesterday Mike and I had the entertaining opportunity to see an iPhone in the flesh or plastic/bullet proof glass/magical materials that it's made of. A good friend of ours had been waiting to get one for months. I thought it was awesome. I had previously thought they were ridiculous and incredibly unnecessary, but it won me over. However, for the price tag and the fact that it's on the At&t network, you won't be seeing me with one anytime soon. Mike on the other hand immediately took sides with Smithers and called him a douchebag to which he answered 'Yes, I am'. Which leaves the question - does admitting you're a douchebag erase your previously thought status of actually being a douchebag because you countered with admission? Or does admitting you're a douchebag make you an even bigger douchebag because you know you're one, but just don't care?

A ruling is needed please.

Why do you ride?

No Pain.

So at Northfield I felt something, no I did something I haven't done before. Instead of feeling pain, I just did what I had to do. This was the first time in my few years of racing where I felt no pain (only during the last lap when it was go time)nor heard anything till the race was over.

I also felt this way last night at the track, when Matt M., Dr. Fil and some Kenwoods guy and myself lapped the field in the points race (this was even planned out.) I didn't feel any pain till we hit the back of the field and I started thinking I needed rest... Then I got lapped... It was lame...

So from now on I'm going to train my mind more. It's easier to just "Do."

Nike was right.

Thong, thong thong thong.

When my neighbors do laundry there always seems to be a thong that never makes it in the wash or has jump out of the laundry basket and lands on the floor.

When finding a rouge thong one should:
A. Be a gentleman and find the owner.
B. Just leave it alone, the mother will be back.
C. Stop and smell the roses.
D. Save it and give it to Skibby to nurse back to health.
E. Start a collection. At the condo party bust those babies out for a classic game of "Guess whose."
F. Can I live at your place?

It's so easy.

I was on the fence on where I wanted to go to school. My choices were the U of M or Midwestern State University in Texas. Well I made up my mind today thanks to a couple of U of M riders not waving to me on the Green Way.

O well, No hard feelings, see you guys next year at Nats. ;)
