Non Pre-registration Fees Need to End

At first I wrote a long essay, but it just didn’t come out right. I’m a simple person with simple questions, so I’m sticking to the K.I.S.S. way of thinking.

1.Why do I have to pay ten dollars more if I don’t pre-register?
2.If I can’t pay thirty five dollars, but I have twenty five will promoters take my money the day of a race or turn me away?
3.What happens if I don’t have a credit card, checking account or internet to pre-register with?
4.Is it better for a race promoter to get twenty five dollars the day of a race then to get none at all?
5.Why don’t promoters keep the same price for providing the same service?
6.Pre-registration is a form of discrimination against cash, isn’t it?
7.What happens if I pre-register then don’t go?
8.How come I can’t get a refund?
9.…Add your own question.

Try promoting a race. Then you'll be able to easily answer all your questions.

I miss the good old days (3-4 years ago). No one was cramming pre-reg or ankle bracelets down our throats.

I see what your saying... but... I have help put on a few races back in socal and understand their side too... here you go...
1.Encourages people to pre register (helps the promoter plan... for ex: may have better prize money if the promoter knows who and how many racers will show..)
2.happened to me once... they took what I had and let me race...
3.uh... money in an envelope with a release form... that's usually what that mailing address is for...
4.Depends on how much of a headache it is to get that 25 dollars... If everyone starts coming with not enough money, then it's not worth it...
5.rarely is it the same service... In different counties, you end up with different policies on permits and dealings with the popo... means spending more or less money on such things... not to mention diferences in prize money...
6.huh??? money is money...
7.well... that's your fault... plan ahead...
8.that is the first good question on this list... but I don't really know why refunds are not very common...
9.Why can't you tap into your beer budget just a little so you can show up to these races with enough money? Or you can pre-register and not get hammered the night before so you actually go to the race and the promoter doesn't "jip you" by not giving you your money back...

Good one Ty!

Jason's right.

I'm going to assume that you've been invovled in cycling long enough to understand the benefits of pre-registration. If you've spent your race (beer) money and don't understand, just think of the times that I've told you about the Leb TT and how we didn't think it was going to happen because we had 12 people pre-registered. And then the line of 75+ the morning of caused delays to the start and confusion for the overall timing because of all the late additions to the spreadsheet.
Deep down I know you were only bitter for a moment when you wrote this post and then came to your senses, but didn't have internet access to delete the post.

And now that I think about it, you owe BCR money too. Watch yourself if we ride this weekend - he he.

I just don't want to pay more then the next guy for the same service.

If I ever promote a race I'll be doing it right, were the prize money comes from the supporting sponsors so I can have a guarantee prize list.

There will be pre-reg but no fee for day of registration. Fortunately the race will be so good people will have to pre-register because the fields will fill.

I will also just have the standard racing categories and will not make snide remarks to the cat 4 winner that he's lucky he was getting money for winning.

Beer fund? Is no longer an issue, I don’t drink for family and personal reasons.

Lalla's beer fund: The money that always seems to be there for beer, but rarely for groceries... It's all good dude... gives me good stories to tell... remember Fayetville?

But yea dude... I was scoping out some prize lists in Texas for when I come back and frankly it was pretty tough to justify going to most of the races... You may pay 20 to 25 dollars to register and the max prize is 50 dollars... maybe make 25 dollars which is probably all gonna be sucked up by gas costs...

Got me thinking, maybe instead of asking about late fees... pose the question as to why prize lists appear so dismal... Nobody is gonna take racing in the states seriously until you can make a little more money racing... It's a buisness in europe... with team bonuses and great prize lists, a descent racer can do pretty well... to be honest, the prize lists are usually under 1000 dollars for kurmesses, but there are so many of those races that you can do 2 a week and place top 30 and end up walking away with a profit of 40 euros for that week...

sorry -- just ran across this late.

for the fairgrounds crits we preferred to think of it as a discount for pre-reg. not a non-pre-reg penalty.

You have to offer the discount our no one will do it. If it’s the same price, why take the risk as a rider that you’ll loose your money should you decide not to go?

we *needed* pre-registration (with no refunds) to share the risk amongst the riders. what i'm saying is, is it better to have 50 riders who pre-reg each loose their $15 dollars if it rains and no one wants to race, or a club with zero dollars in the bank loose 2 grand because no one came to race. the pre-registration was an insurance policy that was paid for by the racers. (thanks!)

i'd rather have gotten 20 bucks from everyone. but lines would have been longer and if we'd had bad weather -- then the event would be gone for ever since we could not have recovered financially as a club from going in the hole on our first race.

Next year will be the same. I hope that the same number of people pre-reg. no more and no less. It works great. Expedites the registration – helps us cover our costs. Everyone who used it had nothing but positive things to say about it.
