Personal Integrity.
That's what it all comes down to. I asked Mike Woell today: "When are you going to upgrade?" All I received was a shrug. This is what happens when you go directly to that person... So I'm done holding my lip. To upgrade to a 2 it takes 25 points for a "mandatory upgrade" 60 points.

Opus he got 11th overall out of all 1/2/3s
If my math is correct that's 83 points, not too bad. I understand the need to "learn to win" but at some point you have to move up right? Racing with Mike in my first year as a 3 has been tough, and there is no doubt in my mind he has made all of us faster and wiser. I look forward to racing against him in a couple of years, but not anymore this year as a 3.
To you Cat. 4 and 5s at Dakota. Sorry you've been destroyed by this dude in a training crit, and I hope this experience doesn't ruin your ambitions for the future.
To Mike: "Shame on"

Blah blah blah, Lalla.
Why don't you stop bitchin' and try to beat him?
awesome! Tellin it like it is!
wiki-
i think lalla is going after "fair and fun."
i also suggest that you come out and try to beat him.
plus, lalla was is a veteran. so he has the right to bitch.
I'm not bitching really... He is one fast dude that wins and will win more. It has been fun "racing" with him.
Just putting out factual information, you decide.
I guess I shouldn't have let him take the win at the Dakota Tech last Tuesday ;-)
report his points to the USCF official, that's how I got upgraded to a 2 in cross. people got sick of me kicking their asses so they reported my points to the ACA
Can a promoter disallow someone to race if they decide? For example, if the USCF officials don't force an upgrade and the rider doesn't request one, can a race promoter say, "hey rider, you can't race as a 3 in my race" and basically upgrade that person for their event?
How many people were in these races?
Upgrading on weeknight crit. results is bogus. The part of the rules that you are ignoring (and that most everyone else in MN ignores too) is that there have to be 50 people in the race and it has to be at least 20 miles long if it's a crit. or 50 miles long if it's a RR. I doubt most Opuses (Opi?) are 20 miles long. And I'd categorize Dakota as a RR and under 50 miles long.
Before anyone upgrades to 2 I suggest that they race at least regionally if not nationally before upgrading. (Killington SR was an eye opener for me when I was a 3.)
I notice that Mr. Woell's only regional races are at Quad Cities, and that his results, while excellent, were not dominant.
I'd suggest that many of our local racers are "over-categoried". (Look how many Cat 1's we have, and how well they faired at Nature Valley.) Mr. Woell seems to be at an appropriate level for a 3.
Maybe the local 3's he races against should really be 4's?
Flood are you making an indictment on the twin cities racer. Are you saying we're slower than the average metro area?
Flood your right, maybe all those cat 2s who did well at Dakota didn't really get upgrade points. I think they should come back down. And I for sure should still be a 4, no joke. Do you think I can get a downgrade?
I think Dakota is a crit by the way.
I re-did the points, with fields I'm assuming were over 50 strong.
6-3-2007 State Crit Capital/ 2nd place/ 5pts
5-28-2007 Quad Cities Crit/6th place/ 1pt
5-27-2007 Melon City Crit/ 1st place/ 7pts
5-26-2007 Snake Alley/ 7th place/ 0pts
5-5-2007 Gluek RR/ 3rd place/ 5pts
4-28-2007 Ken Woods RR/ 1st place/ 10pts
4-21-2007 Durand RR/ 11th place/ 0pts Cat1/2/3
8-26-2006 Gluek RR/ 6th place/1pts Cat1/2/3
7-9-2006 Hopkins Crit/ 3rd place/ 4pts
33 points. So I guess really he should stay a Cat 3 till he gets “real” 60 points.
Have fun at Superweek Mike
If they try to upgrade you just tell them that the money and races you won don’t count.
In all honestly I don’t care one way or the other. I just like riding my bike and hope to be as fast as Mike in the near future.
If you're a Cat 3 and smoking all of the local Cat 2's as well as other Cat 2's from around the region, you should be able to realize that you should be a Cat 2 if not a Cat 1 for crip sakes!!!
If you win a Cat 3/4/5 crit race then go directly back to the start line and win the Cat 1/2/3 crit race, you should be able to realize that you should be a Cat 2 if not a Cat 1 for crip sakes!!!
Mark Mettler
Durand is ABR, no USCF upgrade points for that. The 1/2/3 crits at Dakota should count with field and distances. He's a good racer, its been fun watching, and hard chasing him. the best/worst thing about it is that there will be someone else ready to replace him.
SR- touche
And I agree with the "Fair and Fun" point.
I say report him.
I just like givin' Lalla grief.
As to the suggestion of coming out to beat him--I'm still a four. :(
P.s. still want my Liquigas hat?
First step is coming out of the closet, Marc.
Wow Mark "Le Roy" M. post on blogs! Sweet.
Patrick "Champ" H. is next. But he'll be gone soon, being a Med student and all... Then Eric C. will own. Then help his teammates win. Think he won't?
Mike...
Woell is doing just fine as a three. So he get's his upgrade...then you go from 20th to 19th? Good on you buddy.
-ed
He'll do fine as a Cat2 too. It's not always about me. Remember I don’t sprint for 15th place, I would care less about 19th... But I can think of a few people who will benefit from him getting an upgrade.
Why do people defend a rule (breaker) bender? This is why we have rules right? If you saw a guy win by crossing the yellow line would you complain?
I’m not the one operating in the gray.
I'm just telling like it is:
The sky is blue.
I'm slower then most.
Water is wet.
Rocks are hard.
Mike is racing under his talent level.
The track is a cool place.
Beer is good.
"personal integrity" please. How much integrity is there in attaching someones results online on some blog.
-some kid
how do you figure out your points and how many do you need to go from 4 to 3? This is unrelated to all of your ranting. im just curious.
I guess we all operate on different levels of integrity. For example you, posting as "some kid." ;)
