Youngblood.

Can you believe I've never seen this movie till today, Shame on me... It's up there on my favorite list for hockey movies. Nothing like Canadian Junior Hockey and a little T and A.

"Youngblood" and "Slapshot" are really a continuation of the same story.

"Youngblood" is a coming-of-age flick about a young, naive hockey-crazy dood trying to climb the ladder to pro hockey.

"Slapshot" shows the same protagonist, now 20 years older, his skills gone, just trying to hold on to the game in any way he can because hockey is all he's ever known and he doesn't have anything else to fall back on.

Dean Youngblood truly becomes Reg Dunlap.

I have a friend currently playing low-pro hockey. He was the same naive, young hotshot ten years ago. Now, he's an aging, booze-addled, old hand who's been as high as one step below the NHL but is now living check-to-check in some alphabet soup southern league.

It happens.

Thanks coach.

Slap Shot is my favorite. I think the first time I saw it I was like 5... My mommy made my bro and I look away when the boob shot came on, but I still looked.

Hmmm... The difference is that Slapshot is a classic and Youngblood is sad excuse for a movie. The washed up pro subplot in Slapshot is probably the least interesting thing in the movie.

Next you'll be telling me that American Flyers was in the same ballpark as Breaking Away. Sheesh!
